I am rewatching My Dearest.
I find the storyline in Episode 3 very interesting and exciting when Gil Chae who is infatuated by Nam desperately wanted him to change his mind so as to not go for the battle. She sincerely persuaded Nam himself but failed. Then, she persuaded Eun Ae to persuade Nam which eventually led the couple to make a surprising decision for themselves that totally shocked (us as viewers as well) and shattered Gil Chae.
What breaks my heart the most about Gil Chae's character is she selfishly manipulate Soon Yak who is kind and gullible to 'reclaim' Nam. She is just too obsessed with Nam and too determined in making him become hers.
From Google Gemini:
Gil-chae pretends she is just looking out for her dear friend Eun-ae, but deep down, she is terrified of losing Yeon-jun (whom she wants for herself) and wants him kept safely away from the danger of the upcoming conflict.
When Nam Yeon-jun commits to marrying Eun-ae before heading off to war, Gil-chae’s pride and jealousy take a massive hit.
She manipulates Soon-yak who is already infatuated with her into proposing to her, thinking it’s a clever tactical move to win Yeon-jun back.
Of course, because it's a classic Gil-chae plan that backfires spectacularly, her manipulation ends up locking her into an accidental engagement, leading right into the messy double-wedding talk just as the chaos of the invasion breaks out!
